La edición 73 de los premios Globo de Oro será conducida por el comediante, guionista y productor británico Ricky Gervais el domingo 10 de enero desde el Beverly Hilton Hotel de Los Ángeles, la cual será transmitida en vivo a las 7:00 de la noche por el canal TNT, incluyendo un Pre-Show desde la alfombra roja.
En cine lidera la lista de favoritas Carol, con cinco nominaciones; le siguen The Big Short, The Revenant y Steve Jobs con cuatro cada una. Room, favorita de los festivales, recibió tres, al igual que la cinta de ciencia ficción de Ridley Scott, The Martian. Por su parte, Love & Mercy y Mad Max: Fury Road obtuvieron dos nominaciones cada una. En la categoría Mejor película extranjera, Europa obtiene gran presencia con Mustang (Francia), Son of Saul (Hungría), The Fencer (Finlandia-Alemania-Estonia) y The Brand New Testament (Bélgica-Francia-Luxemburgo). Latinoamérica también tiene su espacio con la cinta chilena El club.
En televisión aparecen las series Mr. Robot con 3 nominaciones cada una, así como American Crime, Fargo, Outlander, Transparent y Wolf Hall.
Durante la ceremonia, el actor, director y productor Denzel Washington será distinguido con el premio especial Cecil B. De Mille, que reconoce a los talentos que consiguieron importantes logros en la industria del cine y la televisión. Sus logros le han valido siete nominaciones a los Premios Globo de Oro, quedándose con dos galardones. Además, el actor ha sido ganador del Oscar en dos oportunidades.
Los Premios Globo de Oro fueron creados en 1944 y son entregados por la Asociación de la Prensa Extranjera de Hollywood (HFPA). Los especialistas indican que los resultados de esta ceremonia son un excelente adelanto de los Oscar, ya que muchas ocasiones consagran a los mismos ganadores en sus principales categorías.
